Welcome Back from Superintendent Betty Turpin
Posted: September 1, 2015
On behalf of everyone at HFCRD, I welcome you back to school for the 2015/16 school year! I hope you all had a restful summer full of adventures and lifelong memories. A new school year is always full of anticipation and excitement. I encourage everyone to spend some time reflecting on your last year and to set goals for your upcoming year. First, look at how far you have come and the goals you have already accomplished. Then look to the future and ask yourself where you would like to be at this time next year. Only you have the power to make the 2015/16 school year a resounding success for yourself. I encourage you to dream big and work hard to fulfill your potential. I wish all staff, students and families a success 2015/16 school year!
For your information, below are just a few items that are new in our division for 2015/16. If you have any questions about specific projects, please contact the HFCRD Central Office and we will be happy to provide updates. We wish you all a successful 2015-16 school year!
Welcome 20 New HFCRD Teachers
We are blessed to welcome 20 new teachers to our division this year. We were very excited to see them all at the New Teachers’ Orientation and introduce them to our division. New teachers spent one day learning about HFCRD, who we are as a division and the many supports available to them. Teachers also spent two days at the Tri-Divisional New Teacher Orientation, in partnership with Peace River School Division and High Prairie School Division where they took part in Professional Development about student engagement, mentorship programs, relationship building, among many others. I wish all our new teachers a successful first year with our division.
Grimshaw Shared Schools Facility
We are pleased to have officially turned the sod on the Grimshaw Shared Schools Facility on June 23rd. The project has officially begun and work is currently being completed. Project partners met with Alberta Education and Alberta Infrastructure throughout the summer to continue the planning process. An estimated completion date of December 2016 has been set. Thank you to the Mile Zero News for printing regular updates throughout the construction of this exciting project!
Glenmary School Modernization
Planning for the modernization of Glenmary School has begun. We have met with Alberta Education and Alberta Infrastructure to discuss the process in detail. The modernization will include a new entrance, add two CTS labs, and improve the school mechanics as well. An RFP has been issued in search of an architect for this project. Once the architect is hired, an estimated construction timeline will be created. We are looking forward to seeing the modernization take shape.
Catholic Leadership Academy
Our division recognizes that strong leadership is an integral part to every successful school. This year, we are supporting our teachers who want to be the future leaders of our division. Fourteen teachers have signed up to take part in the Catholic Leadership Academy that will prepare them for roles in school administration. Facilitated by Jaimie McNamara, the Academy will meet four times throughout the school year. We look forward to witnessing the growth of our future HFCRD leaders!
God Bless,
Jody Bekevich
