At the August 28th Regular Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees unanimously voted to call a by-election in Grimshaw Ward 4. The vote came after the Board received the resignation of Ward 4 Trustee George Chuckvar. Nomination Day has been set for Monday September 17th, 2018. Interested candidates are encouraged to obtain nomination papers here and contact HFCRD Returning Officers Aimee Hirtle or Jarrett Fulcher for further information. Candidates must submit their completed nomination forms to the HFCRD Central Office in Peace River (10307 – 99 St) between 10:00am and 12:00pm on Nomination Day (Monday September 17th).
“We encourage all stakeholders to consider representing the Holy Family School community through Catholic School Trusteeship. Having a voice for the Grimshaw Catholic community at the Board table is vital. My time as a Trustee has been very rewarding and I am confident this journey will be rewarding for the next Ward 4 Trustee as well,” said Board Chair Kelly Whalen. “We thank Trustee Chuckvar for his service. George has been a great asset to our Board and to Holy Family School, and will be dearly missed.”
In order to be eligible for the nomination, candidates must be eligible to vote in the election, be Catholic, be a resident of Ward 4 (Grimshaw and surrounding areas) for six consecutive months, and not be otherwise ineligible or disqualified (as outlined in Sections 22, 23, 24 of the Local Authorities Election Act).
Election Day will be Tuesday October 16, 2018. In the event that only one candidate comes forward on Nomination Day, that candidate will be acclaimed as the Ward 4 Trustee. In the event that no candidates come forward, nominations will re-open the day following Nomination Day from 10:00am – 12:00pm and will remain open for five business days or until a candidate comes forward.
All interested candidates are encouraged to call Returning Officers Aimee Hirtle or Jarrett Fulcher at the HFCRD Central Office at (780) 624 – 3956 to have any questions answered.
