As part of Catholic Education week, the Holy Family Catholic Regional Division (HFCRD) encourages all supporters of Catholic education to show their support by wearing blue on World Catholic Education Day on Thursday May 30th. This special day, which annually falls 40 days after Easter, is a worldwide celebration of the gift of Catholic education.
“We encourage everyone to show their support by wearing blue on World Catholic Education Day. Alberta is blessed to have a fully-funded Catholic education system and we need to show our province-wide support to grow our grassroots support for keeping Catholic values in the classroom,” said Board Chair Kelly Whalen. “Last year, we challenged all Catholic school divisions across Alberta to join us by wearing blue on World Catholic Education Day and we were overwhelmed by the response. By wearing blue, we raised awareness that Catholic schools are needed in this province. By wearing blue, we said we want to keep prayer in the classroom. By wearing blue, we said yes to Christ.”
All supporters are encouraged to use the hashtag #BlueforCatholicEd when posting on social media. HFCRD began this initiative in 2018 and it quickly grew province-wide. Last year, over 443 tweets were posted with the hashtag #BlueforCatholicEd. Those tweets reached 83,625 accounts with a total of 338,809 views. This year, we challenge supporters of Catholic education to use this hashtag even more and share even more support for Catholic education!
