Welcome Back to School!

Posted on

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I wish students, parents, staff and community members a fantastic 2018/19 school year!  We are very excited to welcome new and returning families to our schools.  I hope you all had a restful summer break and are ready to go back to school.  As the Board Chair of the Holy Family Catholic Regional Division (HFCRD), I am very eager about the exciting year ahead for our division. For your information, below are just a few items that are new in our division for 2018/19.  If you have any questions about specific projects, please contact the HFCRD Central Office and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Glenmary School Modernization

We are very pleased that the Glenmary School modernization is nearly complete.  To date, the school has received a new school office, new cosmetology suite (the EvelineCharles Academy), new CTS lab, new science labs, modernized foods lab, art classroom, modernized bathrooms, and updated electrical and mechanical throughout. The last tasks in the modernization is to modernize the cafeteria kitchen which is currently underway, and the addition of solar panels to the front of the school.  We thank the staff, students and families of Glenmary School for their continued patience and understanding throughout the modernization process.

Grimshaw By-Election 2018

Are you feeling called to be a Catholic School Trustee?  At the August 28th Regular Board meeting, the Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Trustee George Chuckvar. At the same meeting, we called a by-election to fill the vacant seat.  Nomination Day is on Monday September 17th and Election Day is on Tuesday October 16th.  If you are interested in learning more about the election, please call 780-624-3956 to speak to Returning Officers Aimee Hirtle or Jarrett Fulcher.

NET Ministries

We are thrilled to welcome NET Ministries to our division for two years beginning in October 2018.  NET Ministries is a team of young missionaries who are coming to our schools to evangelize!  The team will invite students from grades 7 to 12 to live for Christ, and embrace the Life of the Church.  They will do this by leading retreats, and getting involved in each school and parish community.  We are very blessed to have this wonderful team joining us and we look forward to the positive impact they will have on the lives of students across the Peace region.

Grimshaw Shared School Facility

We are thrilled that the Grimshaw Shared School Facility is now one year old and we are proud to share that the first year has been a success.  I would like to thank the hardworking staff at both schools and at the multiplex for their dedication and commitment to cooperation.  I would also like to thank our partners Peace River School Division and the Town of Grimshaw for working together smoothly and prioritizing our working relationship.  Congratulations to the Mile Zero Playground Society on a successful fundraising campaign to build the beautiful playground that is now in place for the thousands of kids in Grimshaw area.  We have enjoyed watching this project take shape and we are honoured to watch this facility become a central hub for the community of Grimshaw and area.

Welcome 15 New HFCRD Teachers

We are blessed to welcome 15 new teachers to our division this year, including three new administrators.  The new teachers were welcomed at the division’s annual New Teachers’ Orientation.  New teachers spent half a day learning about HFCRD, who we are as a division and the many supports available to them.  New teachers will also further their development at the New Teacher Call Backs throughout the school year.  Thank you to our Learning Coach team for hosting and creating these valuable learning opportunities.  I welcome all new teachers to our division.

A new school year is always full of anticipation and excitement.  I wish everyone a successful 2018/19 school year!

God Bless,

Kelly Whalen

Board Chair
