My name is Judy Lynn Ducharme and I am honoured to be a candidate for the Holy Family Regional Catholic Division.
Born and raised in Fort Vermilion I am a strong Aboriginal woman with a proud heritage and strong family values. I am a daughter, sister, aunt, mom and grandmother. I have three beautiful children and one amazing grandson.
I relocated to Peace River in 2010 for work purposes as I was on contract with Alberta Transportation and owned my own company River Spirit safety with a focus on Road Safety. Currently I am an physio therapy assistant with the Peace River Physiotherapy Clinic and nail artist with Split Enz Wellness and Beaty Lounge.
I am a single mom and my son (grade seven currently enrolled in Glenmary School) I had the honour of seeing my two oldest daughters graduate Glenmary Saints.
I have years of experience with governance; Aboriginal Co-chair for Alberta Child and Family Services (now Human Services) for eight years. I am currently a provincial director for the Alberta School Councils Association and have been for ten plus years. I have been part of numerous organizations in a volunteer capacity since 1995, including but not limited to school councils, regional library board, Aboriginal Interagency, Peace River Peewee Football, various sporting organizations and even a leader for the Fort Vermilion Brownie chapter.
I bring a grassroots perspective to the table. As a single mother I understand the daily challenges and pressures of raising a child. I have a very strong connection to my Aboriginal roots and traditions. My son has many educational challenges and I advocate on his behalf for services. I believe strongly in having a voice especially for those without. I value education as this was instilled within me since kindergarten.
I look forward to this campaign and welcome any and all comments and questions. Hiy Hiy
